Chapter: Connect Stripe

Connect Stripe

Your customers pay invoices online via your Stripe account; VentionDesk books the payment.

Where to connect

In VentionDesk under Workspace › Sources › “Add source”, category Payment, then Stripe. Only the owner may connect, edit and remove.

Step by step

  1. In Stripe, create a restricted key “VentionDesk” under Developers › API keys. It needs exactly these permissions, everything else stays “None”: Checkout Sessions: Write (creates the payment page); PaymentIntents: Read (checks what is still open before a refund); Charges: Read (reads what has already been refunded there); Refunds: Write (refunds from VentionDesk).
  2. Enter the key here and save. VentionDesk checks it by querying the checkout sessions; nothing is charged. A test key (rk_test_…) is allowed: then there is only the test link on the invoice, and email and invoice document stay without a link.
  3. Then click “Show webhook address” under “Sources” › Stripe and add it in Stripe under Developers › Webhooks › “Add endpoint”, with exactly these events: checkout.session.completed, checkout.session.async_payment_succeeded, checkout.session.async_payment_failed, charge.refunded.
  4. Copy the endpoint’s “Signing secret” (whsec_…) and save the connection again with the key and signing secret. Only then does the payment link appear in the invoice email and document: without a webhook, a payment would arrive without VentionDesk booking it.
  5. The money goes to your Stripe account. VentionDesk books every payment and every refund against the invoice and only sends Stripe the invoice number, amount and the customer’s email address.

What the dialog asks for

FieldEntryWhere from
Restricted keyRequired | secretDevelopers › API keys › “Create restricted key” (rk_live_… or rk_test_…). A secret key (sk_…) also works, but may do everything.
Webhook signing secretoptional | secretShown after creating the endpoint under Developers › Webhooks › your endpoint › “Signing secret” (whsec_…). Leaving it empty keeps the previous one.

VentionDesk stores secret entries encrypted and never shows them again. They are only saved once the provider confirms the access; if you edit a connection and leave a secret field empty, the previous value is kept.
